iPhone 18 Pro Reportedly Dropping Black Color Option

Apple currently offers the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max in only three color options: Silver, Cosmic Orange, and Deep Blue. Notably absent is a black variant. Last year marked the first time Apple’s premium iPhones were released without any black or dark gray finish, and it appears that trend may continue. For those hoping the iPhone 18 Pro would bring back the classic black option, the outlook isn’t promising.

According to Weibo-based leaker Instant Digital, Apple is unlikely to include a black color option for its upcoming premium iPhones. Meanwhile, Mark Gurman reports that Apple is testing a deep red finish for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, along with a few more traditional shades—but black doesn’t seem to be part of the plan.
There were earlier rumors suggesting Apple might explore purple or brown variants for the iPhone 18 Pro. However, Gurman believes those are essentially different takes on the same deep red concept rather than entirely separate colors.
There is better news for those waiting for Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone. Gurman indicates the company is likely to avoid bold or playful colors for that device, instead sticking with more classic options like space gray/black and silver/white.
As for credibility, Instant Digital has built a solid track record with Apple-related leaks, including accurately predicting the launch of the yellow iPhone 14 in 2023 and design details like the frosted back glass on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
The iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to debut in September, while Apple’s foldable iPhone could arrive later in the year.
