Convincing my family to visit at least a few of the 300 wineries in Northern Virginia turned out to be much easier than I expected.
The kids weren’t exactly excited at first—but once they heard about the playgrounds and delicious food available at many wineries, they quickly changed their tune. The adults were just as easily persuaded, especially with the promise of nearby breweries and great dining options. In the end, it was the food that sealed the deal for everyone.
It didn’t hurt that the region itself is absolutely stunning, nestled between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Appalachian Mountains, with the scenic Potomac River winding through it all.
Here are a few of the wineries and breweries we explored—perfect places to start. And I already have plans to return for more tastings of incredible Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot.
