Ex-Rockstar Dev Predicts Some of GTA 6’s Big Ideas Are Hiding in GTA 5, Citing GTA 4 as Evidence: “I’d Be Incredibly Surprised if They Don’t Do Anything Like That

It seems Rockstar’s approach for GTA 6 is directly inspired by a single mission from GTA 4—the infamous Three Leaf Clover. That heist mission had Niko, Johnny, and Luis working together, with gameplay requiring coordination across all three characters. According to former Rockstar audio engineer Rob Carr, that setup essentially laid the blueprint for multiple protagonists in GTA 5, and now it’s informing GTA 6’s dual-protagonist design with Lucia and Jason.

The idea is clever: by giving players multiple perspectives, Rockstar can expand storytelling, interweaving plots and gameplay mechanics in ways that feel dynamic. Carr hints that GTA 6 will evolve this system further, likely letting us switch between characters more seamlessly and use their interactions as both a narrative and gameplay device. Essentially, Rockstar is doubling down on the multi-character approach, refining what started as a single-mission experiment back in GTA 4.

So when you jump into GTA 6, expect that “three characters in a heist” DNA to still be present—just now it’s grown into a full dual-protagonist world of chaos.
