After years of anticipation, Grand Theft Auto VI is finally getting a major new look at the game.
Rockstar Games has announced “Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look,” scheduled to premiere on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. ET on Netflix. The extended look will also be released on YouTube and the official GTA VI website later that day.
For fans who have been waiting for more than trailers and screenshots, this could be one of the most important GTA VI updates yet.
What Is the GTA VI Extended Look?
Rockstar has not revealed exactly what the Extended Look will contain.
The official announcement simply describes it as an “Extended Look” at Grand Theft Auto VI, meaning Rockstar is preparing to show more of the upcoming game ahead of its release.
That leaves plenty of room for speculation, but the important distinction is between what Rockstar has confirmed and what fans expect to see.
The upcoming presentation could provide a closer look at the game’s world, characters, gameplay systems and activities, but Rockstar has not publicly confirmed a specific list of features that will appear.
When Will the GTA VI Extended Look Be Released?
The Extended Look will premiere on August 27, 2026.
Netflix will get the first showing at 3:00 p.m. ET, while the presentation will become available through YouTube and the official GTA VI website later the same day.
This gives fans two ways to watch it:
- Netflix — first premiere
- YouTube and GTA VI website — later release
So players without Netflix will still have an official way to watch the presentation.
What Could Rockstar Show?
Rockstar has kept the details under wraps, but there is plenty of material that could be explored.
The game follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, two protagonists whose lives become entangled in a criminal conspiracy across the fictional state of Leonida. Vice City is at the center of the setting, but the game extends far beyond the city itself.
The Extended Look could therefore provide more context around:
Jason and Lucia
Fans could finally get a deeper look at how the two protagonists interact and how their relationship develops throughout the story.
Vice City and Leonida
Rockstar has already established that GTA VI will return players to Vice City while expanding the world across Leonida. A longer presentation could reveal more of the environments players will explore.
Gameplay
This is perhaps the biggest question.
Fans will want to see how GTA VI actually plays—from driving and combat to exploration, interactions and the activities available throughout the world.
The World
Rockstar’s previous trailers have already shown a busy and highly detailed version of Vice City. An extended presentation could reveal how much of that detail translates into the actual gameplay experience.
GTA VI Is Still Coming in November
The Extended Look is not the game’s release.
Rockstar currently lists November 19, 2026 as the release date for Grand Theft Auto VI on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
That means the August presentation arrives roughly three months before players can actually explore Leonida for themselves.
It also gives Rockstar an opportunity to build momentum toward the game’s launch.
The Timing Is Particularly Interesting
The announcement comes at a moment when GTA VI is already generating enormous attention online.
Recent unauthorized footage has circulated ahead of the official Extended Look, with reports that Take-Two Interactive has taken legal steps involving Microsoft and Discord as it investigates the source of the leaks.
Despite the leaks, the official August 27 presentation remains scheduled.
For Rockstar, that means the Extended Look can provide fans with something far more valuable than leaked clips: an official, properly presented look at the game.
What Happens After the Extended Look?
The biggest question will be what Rockstar chooses to reveal next.
With the November 19 release date approaching, the company could gradually reveal more information about the game’s world, characters, gameplay and other features.
For players, August 27 could therefore mark the beginning of a much bigger GTA VI marketing push.
