Netflix Playground has officially launched as a new experience designed specifically for children eight years old and younger.
The app features a curated collection of games built around well-known kids’ characters from popular shows such as Sesame Street and Peppa Pig. It’s positioned as a safe, self-contained play environment with no advertisements and no in-app purchases.
The goal behind Netflix Playground is to extend Netflix’s children’s content ecosystem into interactive entertainment, giving younger users a controlled space to engage with familiar characters in a game format.
Netflix Playground is now rolling out as part of Netflix’s broader push into gaming, expanding what was first introduced back in 2021 when the company began offering mobile games to subscribers.
The new standalone app is designed specifically for children aged eight and under, featuring a curated set of games based on popular franchises like Sesame Street and Peppa Pig. It’s included with all Netflix memberships and can be accessed by signing in with an existing account on iPhone and iPad.
Unlike many mobile gaming platforms, Netflix Playground is built to be completely ad-free and contains no in-app purchases, aligning it with Netflix’s broader approach to subscription-based, distraction-free content.
With this launch, Netflix is positioning itself more directly against subscription gaming services like Apple Arcade. While Apple’s service offers a large catalog of premium games with no ads or microtransactions for a single monthly fee, Netflix is integrating gaming into its wider entertainment ecosystem, which also includes movies and TV shows.
The comparison is especially notable given pricing differences between ecosystems. Apple bundles gaming with other services through Apple One, while Netflix includes games within its existing plans—making it a lower-cost entry point for families depending on the subscription tier.
Netflix’s move also comes amid increasing global focus on children’s online safety, with stricter age verification and app regulations pushing companies toward more controlled, kid-focused digital environments. The company is initially launching Netflix Playground in select countries including the U.S., Canada, the UK, Australia, the Philippines, and New Zealand, with a wider global rollout planned for April 28.
