“It’s Not a Full Game Mode, But Here”: Resident Evil Requiem Gets a Kawaii Makeover as Capcom Finally Throws a Bone to the Resident Evil 2 Director Who’s Wanted a Scare-Free Version Since 1998

There’s plenty of beauty to admire in Resident Evil Requiem—some might say it’s Leon S. Kennedy’s striking eyes—but that’s not what caught the attention of Hideki Kamiya, the director of Resident Evil 2. Instead, he seems more preoccupied with the game’s grotesque, lobotomized mutants who look more than ready to shove a chainsaw straight into his chest.

In response, Capcom appears to have offered a playful “consolation” image featuring the nearly defenseless protagonist Grace Ashcroft in a rather grim situation—being choked by the infected diva Selena Corey.

“It’s not a full game mode, but here…” Capcom wrote on the official English Resident Evil account on X, sharing the image of Selena clutching Grace’s head while she screams. Selena still looks as unsettling as ever: jaundiced eyes, shriveled lips, and dark bile clinging to her gums. But in a strange attempt at charm, Capcom doodled a pair of pink cat ears on her head.

The image also features decorative cherry blossom branches framing the scene, with petals drifting down onto Grace as she struggles under Selena’s grip—an oddly pretty touch for such a disturbing moment. :cherry_blossom::ghost:
