The upcoming Permafrost was recently featured in FGS Live From GDC, following the Future Games Show Spring Showcase.
Set in an eternally frozen world after a lunar cataclysm buried civilization beneath ice and snow, players must scavenge, hunt, and gather resources to survive. Building shelters is essential to protect against extreme weather, and crafting allows players to slowly restore elements of the lost civilization. Quick thinking is key—sometimes you’ll need to throw together a lean-to just to stay warm during a sudden storm.
Permafrost supports up to four-player co-op, letting you explore the harsh, frozen world with friends. Even solo players get assistance from a loyal canine companion that can detect danger, carry resources, and sniff out valuable loot.
The game doesn’t have a final release date yet, but early access is planned for later this year on Steam, with a minimum 12-month development window for adding new biomes, quests, and updates based on player feedback. For those eager to get a head start, playtest applications are already open.
