Do you have what it takes to conquer England in this remastered classic?
Defender of the Crown: The Legend Returns was revealed exclusively at the Future Games Show Spring Showcase powered by HyperX. Originally wowing Amiga gamers in 1986 with its blend of strategy and cinematic visuals, this iconic medieval title is now making a triumphant return in a fully remastered edition.
Rule a fractured England
Following the death of the King, England is at war. Players choose one of four Saxon lords and must amass armies, manage territories on a strategic world map, engage in diplomacy or combat, and take part in swordfighting raids, castle sieges, jousting tournaments, and even heroic rescues—perhaps crossing paths with the legendary Robin Hood.
Three ways to play
The remaster offers three distinct modes:
-
Retro Mode – a faithful recreation of the original 1986 graphics and gameplay.
-
Classic Mode – modern visuals and smoother mechanics while retaining the original spirit.
-
Kingdom Mode – a brand-new dice-driven roguelike where players build tactical decks to fight procedurally generated campaigns.
Defender of the Crown: The Legend Returns is slated for Summer 2026 on PC via Steam and GOG, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. For updates, follow Nordcurrent Labs on X and Facebook.
