Directive 8020 Reveals “Movie Night” Couch Co-op, Letting Up to Four Friends Decide Who Lives and Dies in Space

In space, no one can hear five people scream: “Pick A, left! No! Why? WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!”

Directive 8020, the latest space horror from Supermassive Games, released a new live-action trailer during the Future Games Show Spring Showcase powered by HyperX, showcasing the return of the beloved Movie Night mode. This multiplayer setup lets up to five players pass the controller and collaborate as they decide who survives, who dies, and who they can truly trust while trying to survive the horrors of space.

Fans of previous Supermassive titles, such as Until Dawn or The Quarry, will feel right at home. Directive 8020 follows a similar style of branching narratives and high-stakes moral dilemmas. Players guide the survivors of a crashed colony ship on the planet Tau Ceti f, hunted by a shape-shifting alien, making life-or-death decisions that will define their fates.

Movie Night and Multiplayer Mayhem

Movie Night is an offline couch co-op mode where up to five players share control of the characters, passing the pad to make critical choices together. It’s a way to experience the story as a group, with every decision potentially changing who lives and dies.

This is the first Supermassive game to incorporate the Turning Point system, which maps all major decisions on an interactive story tree. It provides a clear view of how your choices shape the narrative, allowing friends to agree, disagree, or replay key moments to explore alternative outcomes. For players seeking higher stakes, Survival Mode ensures all choices are final—every decision is permanent, and the consequences are real.

Directive 8020 is available for pre-order on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, with Steam pre-orders opening soon ahead of its May 12 launch. While the Movie Night online multiplayer mode won’t be available at launch, it will be added later as a free update across all platforms.
